Many clients choose to sync their products into Baker from a third-party menu source or their point of sale. If you'd rather, though, you can create and manage products directly within your Baker Kitchen! Doing so will take a little bit of time at first, but we find that being able to completely control menu offerings on Baker's Menu is oftentimes quite beneficial. If you're looking for some more information on how to build products within Baker this article is for you.
Access Your Baker Menu
To access your Baker Menu click the purple Menu tab on the left-hand side of your Kitchen.
You can also access your Baker Menu by typing the following into your browser's address bar:
We suggest bookmarking this tab if you will be working within the Menu tab frequently.
Add New Products
Once on your Menu page, you can add products by clicking the turquoise NEW PRODUCT button on the top-right corner of the page (directly under MANAGE).
Upon clicking NEW PRODUCT, the ADD OR EDIT AN ITEM window will pop up. This window allows you to customize all aspects of your products. We'll explain what each field means below.
Product Name - This field allows you to type the name of your product exactly as you'd like it to appear on your menu.
Description... - Feel free to add any additional information about this product (beyond its name) into the Description... field. We recommend including any and all information you foresee your customers or patients asking about this product here.
IMAGE OPTIONS - Click the IMAGE OPTIONS button to add an image onto your product. Once you click this button, an IMAGE MANAGER window will appear.
You can use the Search for an image... field to browse through hundreds of Baker-hosted images. For example, type in "kush" to peruse previously uploaded images tagged with kush. If you'd rather upload your own image, click the UPLOAD button on the right-hand side of the IMAGE MANAGER window.
After uploading your own image, you have the ability to add tags in the Image Tags... field. Adding a tag and neglecting to make the image private allows any other Baker user to use the Search for an image... field to find (and potentially use) your image.
If you'd rather keep your images private (i.e. for your use and your use only) be sure to check the Make image private box before hitting DONE.
You can also manage this setting in your Preferences section. Go to Preferences > Functionality > Imagery and set the image upload behavior to your preferred setting.
Once you're happy with the image you've selected, hit DONE to associate it with this product.
Available - The available toggle lets you set whether this item will or will not actively show on your live Shop page. The purple check means yes, this product will show publicly, while the red X sets the product to be Not Currently Available.
Product Class - The Product Class drop-down menu lets you designate which type of product this is. Click into the menu to see the list of available categories for your Baker-hosted products.
Selecting different Product Classes will generate different pricing schemas on the right-hand side of the ADD OR EDIT AN ITEM window. For example, selecting Flower will give you some default prices for weights (Half Gram, Gram, Eighth, etc.) whereas selecting Gear gives you a basic Unit price setup.
If you do select Flower, a new field for Flower Category Option will appear. You can have the software automatically detect the type of category by name or set it to Hybrid, Indica, or Sativa yourself.
Stock Level Tracking - You have the ability to manually enter the current stock level for each product that you add into Baker. To enable this feature, check the Enabled box. Doing so will make a new field pop up.
Items measured in weight will let you enter Stock Level (grams) whereas those measured in units will allow you to enter Stock Level (units). You can type in the number of grams or units you have for this product; each time someone orders this item the software automatically removes the amount they've purchased from your inventory. If, say, you have 35 units of a specific product, type in 35 to the Stock Level (units) field.
Manufacturer - This field lets you add the name of the company that makes this product within your Kitchen. It will display on the product page above the item name.
Product Type - If you set the Product Class to something like Edible, you can list a subcategory in the Product Type field. Brownie would be a good example of this. The Product Type also does not show publicly; this is a good spot for you to put internal information about this item's subcategory.
Details - Like Manufacturer and Product Type, the Details field will not show on your Shop page. You can put internal notes on whether this item is, say, vegan or gluten-free here by typing in abbreviations and separating them with a comma.
Regular Price - This field allows you to enter special notes about any type of discount or special that may be on this product. Again, it is for internal-use only and does not show publicly on the Shop.
Copy Price From Another Item - If you have the same pricing for multiple products, you can copy the pricing setup from any already-made product with this field. Click into Select Item and click the name of that already-made product to put its pricing on to this new item.
Pricing Columns - Depending on how your Kitchen is set up, you may see columns for Medical and/or Recreational pricing. If this product is measured by weight, only weighs you've entered a price for will show. The same is true for units; only units that you've entered a price show will show as available to the public.
New Unit Label... - The New Unit Label... field is a great way to add variation to the default weights and/or units that appear on Baker products. A great example for this would be to set your Product Class to Gear, intending to build out a branded sweatshirt product. You could type in sizes to the New Unit Label... field in order to present multiple options on one product.
After typing the name of the new label, click the + button to add it. If your Product Class is set to Flower, the New Unit Label... field will be partnered with a Unit Weight (grams)... field.
This allows you to add customized weights to your products. If you offer a uniquely named weight for flower, add the name as the New Unit Label... and the actual gram amount for Unit Weight (grams)... and click the + button to finish.
DELETE - Once ready to completely wipe out a product, hit the DELETE button.
CANCEL - This button allows you to back out of any updates you're making to a new or existing product. If the product is existing, it will restore it to the state it was at before you started editing. If the product is brand new, it will be erased.
SAVE! - The SAVE! button lets you save your changes. We suggest playing it safe and saving more often than not!
Manage Existing Products
All saved products will show on your Menu page under YOUR CURRENT MENU in alphabetical order. Each product will have three buttons on the right-hand side of the line that it exists on.
The first button is a rectangle with a pencil in it. This is the Edit Item button, allowing you to make updates to an existing product. Clicking this will take you to the ADD OR EDIT AN ITEM area explained above.
The star-shaped button is the Toggle featured tool. Clicking this turns the button itself from gray to purple. On the Shop page, any featured items will show at the top of your products in the Specials area. This is a great way to highlight new or limited-time products (or any other item that you want your customers or patients to see right away).
The third button is the Available toggle. This button has three possible states. The purple check mark will show when an item is available and Stock Level Tracking is not turned on.
You can remove items from your Menu (and, thus, Shop) at any given moment by clicking the Available button. It will then showcase as a red X, i.e. Not available.
If you have Stock Level Tracking turned on, this button will show you the available units or grams for that item. You can't interact with this button when Stock Level Tracking is turned on, but you can click the Edit Item button to toggle whether it's available on the ADD OR EDIT ITEM window.
Search Your Baker Menu
When you go to your Menu page, you will only see available products by default. You can control what you're viewing in the FIND PRODUCTS area of the page.
Search for an item... - This field allows you to type the name of a product in order to bring it up. If you have multiple items from the same brand and that brand name is included in the product's name, for example, type in the name of the brand and hit the turquoise SEARCH button below.
Available Items - This drop-down menu is interactive. By default, the Menu page starts on Available Items and only shows you in-stock and/or available products. You can click into this menu to see some other options. When you've selected one of the below view options, hit the turquoise SEARCH button below to change the view.
Unavailable Items - This will show any product that is out of stock, has been manually deactivated, or cannot display due to another reason (e.g. no pricing is entered).
No pricing - This specifically shows products that are not active due to no pricing being entered.
No image - This will show you products that are already built but do not have an image attached.
Feature items - This will show you any product that has the star-shaped button set to purple and, thus, is featured on your Shop.
Show all - If you come to the Menu page and can't find something you know should be there, Show all is the best view to choose. Select this and then hit the turquoise SEARCH button in order to see all products on your menu regardless of the state they are in.
Select All - Below the checkbox that reads Select All, you will see different Baker category names. You can use the Show more toggle to open up the full list of categories.
To view, say, products in the Wax category only, click the checkmark beside Select All to deselect all categories. Next, click the empty box next to Wax so that a checkmark displays and hit the turquoise SEARCH button.
Keep in mind that you can always refresh your page to get back to the default Menu view.
