Connect messaging supports the ability to send messages over 160 characters. You can send a message that's several segments, although many cell phone carriers deliver them in a way that looks like only one message to the recipient. In order to continue to stay ahead of industry compliance, we bill by segments rather than texts. This is what allows for messages to go over 160 characters and is a messaging industry best practice. We strive for transparency and want you to understand your Connect usage. Connect overages will be added to your monthly invoice.
Track your monthly segment usage by going to the Connect section of the Kitchen. On the top right is a 'Summary Data' section. Refer to this article to learn how to read this Summary Data.
You can also view usage from previous months to get a sense of how many segments are typically sent each month. SMS Analytics will give you insight into how many segments were sent, what their reach was, and the segment total overall.
To get the most out of your message segments, we recommend that you use Connect filters to send your message to the right customer. Targeted messages can often be more effective for specific sales like 'Munchie Monday.' This will also reduce segment usage.
